Overview:
The place having the highest record of Bengal tigers and white tigers, the Bandhavgarh National Park is a world-renowned tiger reserve. The Sal forest with tall grasslands and lush vegetation was a popular hunting ground for the Maharajas of Rewa. Presently, the national park located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh is a haven for wildlife. The reserve houses many tigers and about 22 other types of mammals along with 250 different bird species The national park is stretched over an area of 450 square kilometres and offers jeep safaris through the park, which is a wonderful opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers as you will be able to spot various animals and birds roaming about freely in their natural habitat.
Apart from spotting rare white tigers and a variety of other wild beasts, the place also has a mythological significance. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ram’s younger brother Lakshman had a fort in Bandhavgarh, which was gifted to him by Lord Ram, hence the name ‘Bandhavgarh,’ which translates to ‘Brother Fort.’
The ideal time to visit the national park is the dry season, that is, before the onset of monsoon or after the monsoon to avoid the damp ground, which makes the safari strenuous.
