Overview:
The crescent-shaped sea beach on the southern delta of West Bengal offers a perfect getaway for the weekend to release stress after a long week of endless works. The Bakkhali island will allow you to leave the stress back at home, fill your lungs with pure air, and your eyes with perfect scenic beauty. You can lie down on the bed with a book and in between, take some time to explore the surroundings. Spend time on the beach, take boat rides to other nearby islands, or arrange a picnic, and spend time with your family.
Day to Day Travel Slate:
Day1:
Bakkhali is a quick drive from Kolkata, and it takes about 3.5hrs (130Kms). On arrival, you will see lots of places to spend the weekend. There you will check-in to a hotel/resort/tourist lodge. After some refreshing, authentic Bengali lunch, you will take a local tour around Bakkhali.
The beach town of Bakkhali is wrapped with islands, lakes, farms, and the famous 7kms long Bakkhali beach. You can take a long walk along the sea-shore or take boat rides in the lakes or cycle rides on the commotion-free streets to spend time while you are here.
Most of the neighboring areas’ energy is generated by a series of windmills that neighboring areas’ energy is generated by a series of windmills set in a park called Frasergunj Wind Park after the name of the British official Andrew Fraser who founded the park.
Another tourist spot will be the Bishalakhsmi Temple, which you can visit while on the beach. The temple is situated on the sea-shore adding to the beauty of the sea.
After sunset, you can come back to the hotel and spend the night in Bakkhali.
Day2:
Today after breakfast, you will take boat rides to the neighboring islands.
- ‘Henry’s Island: Founded during the 19th Century by a British explorer named Henry, it is from there that the island gets its name. The island’s watch-tower built inside the Sundari Tourist Complex is the perfect place to get the island’s best panoramic view and the beach.
- Jambu Dwip: Another scenic spot to visit while in Bakkhali is the Jambu Dwip. Located 8 km away from the sea coast, the island remains immersed under the water for several months in a year.
- Crocodile Breeding Centre: This unique park preserves and breeds variety of crocodiles of different age groups. The park is the only crocodile center in the West Bengal and one of the world’s rare ones.
After a whole ‘day’s adventurous travel, you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day3:
In the morning, with your quick getaway weekend trip to Bakkhali coming to an end, you will board a train to return to Kolkata.
