Overview:

In the famous city of Rajasthan, which adds more spice to the golden desert city, Jaisalmer is the world-famous Desert Festival. The carnival takes place in the month of February, a few days before the full moon, and comes to an end on the night of Magh Purnima.

The extravagant fiesta is a treat for all your senses.It not only exposes visitors to the rich culture and traditions of the state, but the most fun parts of the festival are the unique competitions held for everybody. There are events such asmatki competition for the women and the long moustache and turban tying competitions for the men. Amongst all, the most famous event remains the camel race.

Apart from the competitions, you can also indulge in different local cuisines while relaxing and enjoying folk music and traditional dance form. And to top it all, there is also grand fireworks show that will make your fun and entertainment complete.

Day to Day Travel Slate:

Day1:

After arriving at the Jodhpur Airport or railway station, you will travel for another 5Hrs (285Kms) and reach Jaisalmer. You will check-in to a hotel and relax while enjoying some refreshments. Later you will take a tour of the famous Jaisalmer Fort, also called ‘Sonar Quila’ because it is made out of sandstone, which looks golden under the sun. The fort is also known worldwide as it is one of the very few ‘living forts’ in the world where many people resideto date. Followed by the fort, you will visit the Royal cenotaphs to jar your memory and recall the Indian History in this historical tour.

For the next half of the day, you will enjoy yourself at the Desert Festival. The festival is based on the celebration of the Thar Desert, and it continues for a couple of days, ending on the full moon night during the month of February. This colourful festival also celebrates the rich culture of the state along with a wide variety of games in which the visitors can participate. You will spend the rest of the day at the festival ground and participate in competitions, including the Turban Tying competition, Mr. And Miss Desert, and many more. After a fun day, you will come to your hotel at night and spend the night there.

Day2:

The next day early in the morning, you can attend the Mangal aarti at Gadsisar Lake. Then you will come back to the hotel for breakfast. In the afternoon, you will go back to the festival ground and become a part of the Tug of War, which is a competition between the Indians and the Foreigners. Later, you can test your balancing skills by participating in the Matka race competition. You may also indulge in some amusing games like camel decoration and the camel polo.

In the evening, you will come back to the hotel to rest and spend the night in Jaisalmer.

Day3:

Today you will start your day by embarking on a sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer. You will be visiting the major tourist attractions of Jaisalmer, including Jain Temples, Bada Bagh, Folklore Museum, and the Amar Sagar Lake.

Later in the day, you will visit two of the most striking Havelis of the region- the Salim Ji Ki Haveli and the Nathmal ki Haveli.

As it is the last day of the festival coincided with the full moon, you will drive to the Sam Sand Dunes, which is the venue for the festival’s grand finale.

After enjoying yourself to the fullest, at night, you will be back to the hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

Day4:

On the last day of the trip, you will drive back to Jodhpur Airport or the railway station in the morning post breakfast. After such an amazing experience, you will not be leaving Jaisalmer alone but with a heart full of worthwhile memories.
