Overview:
A journey through the snow-clad mountains of Kullu and Manali offers you a glimpse into the wonders of nature. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks on all sides, the mountains and valleys of Himachal promise you a grand adventure, spread out throughout your 11 days journey. With your journey beginning in Chandigarh, you will have an opportunity to admire the modernity of cities as you later will be inspired by the enormity and magnificence of nature in Himachal. With roots in mythologies, the temples and monasteries of Manali will offer you myriad of stories. For the nature lover, the Rohtang pass with its long winding roads and snowy backdrop offers another incentive to visit. Your trip through Chandigarh to Manali, and home, will be a hasslefree experience as you sit back and enjoy your peace.
Day to Day Travel Slate:
Day 1:
Arrival at Chandigarh by flight or train. You will check-in at a hotel in Chandigarh. Chandigarh, holding the title of the first planned city of India, has the perfect blend of urban architecture and natural beauty. You can spend your day visiting the Rock garden, the Rose garden, Sukhana Lake, and the leisure valley.
Day 2:
Transfer to Manali from Chandigarh by road. The road to Manali is scenic and perfect for a glimpse into nature and is bound to gift you memories of nature at its purest and finest. Manali is a beautiful resort town nestled in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. After your arrival here, check-in at the hotel. Relax for the rest of the day.
Day 3:
After a wonderful breakfast, you will begin your day with a visit to the Vashisth temple. The temple is famous for its hot water springs that are believed to have healing properties. You can take a relaxing Turkish hot bath here. Later you will spend the day enjoying the beautiful local tourist spots in Manali. Your first trip will be Hidimbadevi temple. With its deep roots in the stories of the Mahabharata, the temple holds a particular fascination for the local pilgrims and tourists. Your next stop will be the Beas river, which rises in the Himalayas in central Himachal Pradesh and flows for 470 kilometers before mingling into Sutlej. After your sightseeing, you will return to the hotel.
Day 4:
Your day will have an early morning start from the hotel towards Keylong via Rohtang pass. As you will move towards Keylong, you will see a dramatic change of scene, so breathtaking that it has repeatedly been featured in numerous Bollywood movies, like Jab We Met. The Rohtang Pass, with its strategic location, has held a significant place in travel and tourism. After arrival, check-in at the hotel and get some rest.
Day 5:
After breakfast, you will be sightseeing at Udaipur and Trtilokinath temple. Trilokinath is famous for the Shiva temple and attracts countless devotees throughout the year. Located on the banks of the Chandrabhaga River, Udaipuris well known for the ancient MrikulaDevi temple. After a tourof the beautiful town, you will return to the hotel forthe night.
Day 6:
Next morning, you will have an early morning start for Kaza via Kunzum pass. On the way, you will visit the Chandra Taal Lake and Bara Shigri Glacier. The Bara Shigri Glacier is the world’s 2nd largest glacier and is an absolute spectacle to behold before you. After that, you will proceed towards the Spiti Valley. Located high in the Himalayas, It is a cold desert mountain valley. Strategic placement of Spiti as the land between Tibet and India has given its name the meaning of “the middle land.” After you arrive at Kaza, you will check-in at the hotel.
Day 7:
You will start your day with a visit to the Key monastery and Key Gumpah. Dhankar monastery, located at the height of almost 3900 ft, is snugly situated on the peaks, overlooking the valley. It will be your destination. After that, your next stop will be the Kibber village, 17 km away from Kaza – it stands as the highest motorable village in the world at 4328m above sea level. Kibberwildlife sanctuary is the only sanctuary in India, which is situated in the cold desert. Harboring a variety of flora and fauna, it also homes the magnificent snow leopard, and will be your last stop for the day.
Day 8 (Optional)
After breakfast, you can visit the Tabo Monastery situated at a distance of 48 km from Kaza. Often referred to as the “Ajanta of Himalayas,” the monastery has nine temples and many stupas. Here, you will be able to find lots of valuable and enriching information on the oldest cultures of India and Tibet.
OR
You can choose to return to Manali via Rohtang Pass. Rest in the evening followed with a night stay.
Day 9:
Manali, in all its natural glory, is resplendent. Spending a day in Manali among the snow-capped mountains and steep valleys will be the perfect way to end your adventures here until next time.
Day 10 & 11:
Return to Kolkata from Manali via Chandigarh.
