Overview:

If you are looking for a perfect getaway from the over-crowded, bustling, and polluted city life, then spending a few days inthe rural part of West Sikkim might be what you need. Breathing the pure air and absorbing the beauty of the calm and picturesque nature will work as a detox for you.

The small village of Kaluk is tucked away from the overbearing city life in the West Sikkim at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. This surreal and quaint place offers the best view of the majestic Mt. Kanchenjunga. Apart from its beauty, Kaluk is also a naturelover’s paradise, and it promotes eco-tourism for the state of Sikkim.

Another unexplored gem of this part of Sikkim is the Darap village. Situated at an altitude of 1600m, this place is the residence of the Limbo Tribesmen. The Limboostodate haspreserved its rich culture and heritage. They have also maintained a perfect balance with nature over the ages.

The charming beauty of these villages and the healthy organic lifestyle of the locals, along with their culture and handloom, will make you want more.

Day to Day Travel Slate:

Day1:

On arrival at the Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway station, you will head to Kaluk (125Km, 4Hrs). There you will check-in to a resort, enjoy a piping hot meal and take some rest.

Later you will visit Rinchenpong, 3kms away from Kaluk. A tour around the Lepcha Heritage House will give you a fair idea about the intricate designs included in the architecture of the house. From there, you will proceed to visit the RinchenpongDuk Bungalow, a popular tourist spot of the area as the great Nobel Laureate, Rabindra Nath Tagore, once visited and stayed there. There is also a smriti van in his name ‘Tagore Smriti Van.’ You can also spend some time enjoying the view of the nearby small lake.

In the evening, you will come back to the resort to spend the night at Kaluk.

Day2:

After taking breakfast at the resort, you will be out to explore the surroundings. You will visit the twin villages, Hee and Bermoik, located at an elevated height of 8400ft. The village of Bermoik is situated at a higher level than Hee, at the foot of Chaya Taal in the VarseyRhododendron Sanctuary. Bermoik offers a panoramic view of the Kangchenjunga and is habited in small hamlets by the Lepcha tribes.

Your next stop for the day will be the Sirijunga Fall, and the Sirijunga Cave, locally called as SirijungaPduku. It is a downward walk from Bermoik Bazar, located at Rishi Khola and Kalej.

After seeing the mysterious Holy Box, you can take a tour around the village, appreciating the beauty of nature. You can take a boat ride at the Chaya Tal located in HeeKyangbari. At Hee, other interesting tourist spots will be the water park and the largest prayer wheel.

In the afternoon, you will come back to the resort to take rest. You will spend the rest of the day in leisure and spend the night at Kaluk.

Day3:

The next morning, post-breakfast, you will be out for the day. Your destination will be the Darap village, which you will reach via Pelling. On your way, you will make several stops at different attractive tourist hubs. You will visit:

• The charismatic Kangchenjunga Falls
• The highest bridge of Sikkim and the second highest in Asia- Singshore Bridge
• The Buddhist religious pilgrimage ruins- Rabdentse Ruins
• The sacred and picturesque lake- Khechopalri Lake
• Buddhist monastery- Pemayangtse Gompa

After visiting all the sites, you will reach Darap village, where you will check-in to a premium Homestay. After a late lunch, you can take some rest and later take a walk around the village. Meet the local people and experience their livelihood.

At night return to the homestay and spend the night at Darap.

Day4:

Today you will spend around Darap village, soaking in the lush and natural beauty of its surroundings. Firstly, in the morning, you will indulge in some organic breakfast and then be on your way to explore the village. In this tour, you will experience a pastoral life and witness their day-to-day activities such as milking cows, making butter and cheese, gardening fields, etc. In the afternoon, come back to the homestay for a while for some lunch. Later visit the Yuma Meditation centre and the Limboo traditional house, a 200years old heirloom of the Nepali Limbo Tribesmen.

The evening will be for you to relax and enjoy a cultural program arranged by the locals, while you savour a steaming cup of tea or coffee. You will be spending the night in Darap.

Day5:

On the last day of your trip, with a beautiful journey coming to an end, you will travel back home from the Bagdogra Airport or NJP station.
