Overview:
The river Ganga holds a special significance in the cultural, spiritual, and anthropological history of India. “Prayag” is the Sanskrit equivalent for ‘River Confluence,’ a place where two rivers join. The panchPrayagor the five rivers’ confluenceoccurs at Vishnu Prayag, Nanda Prayag, KarnPrayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag, respectively form river Ganga. Emerging from the snow-capped hills of the Himalayas, the river Ganga, and the five prayags will be an enchanting waiting for you to undertake. Your adventure will start with Haridwar’s holy city, and you will go on to discover scenic views and picturesque rivers merging. You will visit peaceful,sacred shrines and temples and feel yourself connecting with a culture on this adventure. Your trip will conclude with a visit back to Haridwar as you will return home with happy memories.
Day to Day Travel Slate:
Day1:
After you arrive at Dehradun Airport, you will then be transferred to Devprayag via Haridwar. Serving as the gateway to the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand and Dev Bhoomi, Haridwar has a special place in spiritual tourism. Here, after getting some much-needed rest, you will start your adventure for the day. Marked by the confluence of rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, and situated in the lap of the Himalayan range, the gorgeous city of Devprayag is a religious hub in Uttarakhand. Also celebrated as the birthplace of River Ganga, you will take a dip in this holy river in Prayag. After you visit the Ganga Temple on the bank of the Sangam, you will offer your prayers. Next, you will seethe Raghunath Temple and Chandeshwar Mahadev Temple. Made up of huge rocks, Raghunath ji Temple is one of the oldest temples of Lord Rama and believed to be around 10,000 years old. Next, you will pay a visit to the two old libraries in the city, which houses many rare and ancient manuscripts. This visit will make the inner historian in you quite happy. In the evening, you will return to your hotel as your overnight stay will be at Devprayag.
Day2:
Next morning, you will be transferred from Devprayag to Rudraprayag. Named after Lord Shiva (Rudra), the city is situated at Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers’ holy confluence. The entire city is a beauty to behold with nature unmistakably thriving. Here, you will take a dip in the holy river and perform needed rituals. You will next visit the beautiful and mythically significant Narad Shila, where according to the Puranas,Narad Muni meditated for years. Your overnight stay will be at Rudraprayag.
Day3:
Next morning, you will proceed for Rudraprayag sightseeing. Your first visit for the day will be to the Rudranath Temple and Koteshwar Mahadev Temple that lies 7 km north of Rudraprayag. According to the myths, the Koteshwar temple exists from the time of Bhasmasur and is considered the spot where Lord Shiva stopped for meditation on his way to Kedarnath. After you visitKoteshwar Temple, you will witness other nearby, small temples dedicated to Mahadev, Durga, and Hanuman. Your overnight stay will be at Rudraprayag.
Day4:
After a scrumptious breakfast, you will leave Rudraprayag and transfer to the holy city of Karnaprayag. Surrounded by serene and snow-capped mountains, the city is a host to panoramic rivers. Here, in Karnaprayag, the River Alaknanda meets the River Pinder. This another holy an awe-inspiring confluence that you will get to witness. You will then visit the ancient Uma Temple, dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, where you will offer your prayers. You will next visit Karna Temple and shrines dedicated to Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Lord Shiva, which are just beside Karna’s shrine. Your overnight stay will be at Karnaprayag.
Day5:
Next morning, you will be transferred from Karnaprayag to Nandaprayag. In Nandaprayag, the holy river Alaknanda meets river Nandakini. There are no surviving temples on the ghats of Nandaprayag, as the only temple of Nanda Devi got washed away in flood. So you will next visit the temples of Chandika Devi, Gangeshwar Mahadev, and Gopalji that are just as awe-inspiring and worth visiting.
Day6:
next morning, after a delectable breakfast, you will proceed from Nandaprayag to Vishnuprayag. These quaint little townhomes, ferocious rivers, lush green mountains, and many Ashrams. Here, in Vishnuprayag, the holy River Alaknanda meets the River Dhauli Ganga. You can take a dip in this sacredconfluence and offer your prayers in the beautiful, ancient temple devoted to Lord Vishnu.
Day7:
Next morning, you will leave Vishnuprayag and proceed towards Haridwar. Enroute, you will make a stop at Rishikesh. Surrounded by lush green hills and divided by the Ganges, this tranquil city is often claimed as the `Yoga Capital of the World.’ From here, you will return to Haridwar for your return journey home.
